With the start of a new year I find myself inundated with calls from friends, colleagues and referrals on how to write a book. The question usually comes in the form of a query “hmmm…I’m thinking about writing a book…well actually I think I’ve got a great idea, what do you think?.”
Starting from Thursday January 21st 2010, at 3pm GMT, I am running a 60-minute open forum for those who would like to begin a new project, get involved in social media to build their personal brand, complete unfinished work or just want to discover whether they have a book in themselves. I know the pleasures and the pit-falls of the writing process. I have written books as a sole author, co-author, collaborated with a group of experts of differing nationalities, written articles, and been through the longer process of working with publishers, revising and producing second editions, wondering if it wouldn’t be easier, sometimes, to self-publish. I have also had the pleasure of introducing experts, helping them through the process of co-writing their books. Now, writing has new outlets, in shorter forms through social media; Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, to name a few, as well as e-books and blogs.
Invariably, I find on the journey of writing, that I’ve learnt a lot about myself; discovered what I know, what I don’t know or don’t care that much about. During the process I have had the luck and honour to discuss the ins and outs of the whole process with long established writers of both fiction and non-fiction. So, if you are wondering whether you could write a book, want to raise your business and professional profile through the process, even feel you’re the next Dan Brown or J K Rowling, then please contact me at: ns@proactivecoaching.com
